Wood Sculpture by Pine
Images 25–29
I'm using a common stain, but I'm applying it in harmony with the grain of the wood, but in a non-uniform manner so that it adds dimension to the fur of the bears.

Here's a wide view of the stained bears. Notice that I used the stain to create the softer, lighter colored muzzle of young bears.

...And a close-up. You can see where the stain is flowing along the cuts I made, too. I also applied stain to the nose to blacken the skin. These will be brown bear cubs. Black bear cubs would have received a much deeper stain.

The property owner wanted to contribute to the sculpture. Here he's applying one of several coats of varnish.

And we're done. The property owner is rinsing down the finished scultpure — a beautiful addition to his yard!
